Half of Europe is baking. So this month we’re pointing 11 Houses in the opposite direction - up, to the cool end of the map.

The North has a reputation for being eye-wateringly expensive, and in the city centres it is. But step out to a lake in Finland, a forest in northern Sweden, or a fjord in Arctic Norway, and the numbers get genuinely interesting. We found red timber cottages, log cabins with their own sauna, and whole private islands - most of them between €80,000 and €200,000. One Finnish island cabin comes in at €85,000. Boat included.

This is the Europe of long light summers, midnight sun, swimmable lakes and 18°C afternoons - a few hours’ flight from the heat. Below are 11 real, currently-listed cabins across Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands, plus a detour to Greenland and Svalbard for the truly adventurous.

Grab a cold drink. Let’s go north. 🧭
